I just received word that the two images depicted below have been recognized as “Highly Commended for Photographic Excellence” in the recent Denver Audubon Society’s Share the View international photographic competition. On Wednesday, February 11, 2015, I will be recognized for my entries at The Wildlife Experience, IMAX Auditorium, in Parker, Colorado, just south of Denver.
“Foggy Morning at Sprague Lake”
American Elk – Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Although the annual elk rut was still a few weeks away, this young bull was getting an early start as he courts this cow during the early morning hours at Sprague Lake.
“Mountain Reflections”
Wood Buffalo (Bison) – Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta; Canada
Before me lay this beautiful mountain lake; nearby a herd of bison were grazing. I visualized this image in my mind and began urging the bison into position. Fortunately, they obeyed. Once again, Nature smiled upon me as she waved her magic wand.
Congratulations! I love them both, but I think that elk picture is my favorite of yours. And that’s saying a lot!
Thank you very much, Erin. I’m happy to know that you like them.
Congratulations!!! Both images are absolutely super and deserve the award!
Jack
Thank you, Jack. It’s good to hear from you.
YOU MUST HAVE USED YOUR MAGIC WAND ! THESE ARE AWESOME. BUT ESP LOVED SPRAGUE LAKE IMAGE. BARB E.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, Barbara. The only magic wand I have access too would be one furnished by Nature.
Weldon,
Excellent light and images. Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much, Ned.
Stunning images Weldon. I particularly like the Elk – Amazing !!!!!
I’m glad you like it, Jackie. Thank you very much.
Both images were great, especially the elk. What time of day were you there?
We arrived a little before sunrise, Rich. However, we didn’t spot the elk until about a half hour later. Actually, we heard them first. It was unlike any elk vocalization that I have ever heard . . . and I’ve heard a lot of them over the years. Thank you for your comments.
Weldon – As per usual, the work of few photographers can compare to yours!
Thanks, Frank. You are too kind. When are you coming to see me?
Weldon, these are simply gorgeous! I would love to tag along with you sometime!!
Thank you very much, Pamela, for your wonderful comments.

Thanks, Sue. You’re a sweet heart..
Congratulations Weldon. Well deserved.
Thank you, Mitch. I really appreciate your wonderful comment.
The elk reflection is extremely unique given you had to have Mother Nature provide the calm and 3 elk stand motionless long enough for any water disturbance to quit, then to get eye contact with all 3. You hit the trifecta! Then on the photographer end, you had to see the possibilities to be ready for this moment, then get the exposure and composition perfect, another trifecta! Big congrats, well done!
Thank you for your wonderful comments. However the image to which you refer is a gift from Nature. I just happened to be in the right place . . . at the right time . . . and tripped the shutter at the right moment. This is just another incident that supports the fact that my wildlife images are a collaboration between me and my wild brothers and sisters.
Stunning images Weldon and worthy of the honor!
Thank you very much, Jacqueline. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your wonderful comments with me.
